Merlin

The Merlin falcon is a small, powerful bird of prey known for its swift, agile flight and bold hunting style. Found across North America, Europe, and Asia, it often chases small birds in open habitats with remarkable speed and precision.

We have referred to this as our signature EDC (Every Day Carry) design in the past. This knife was designed for that exact purpose. As a Designer & a Knifemaker, I desired to carry my own fixed blade design and handcrafted work on me, even to the office.

This situation challenged me to design something that was small enough to be concealed in my pocket if I wanted it to be, and still have an ergonomic fit. With a less than 3 inch blade, and roughly 6 inch overall length, this knife has suited this purpose perfectly since day one.

Heart of the blade.

There are several decisions to consider when ordering a knife, and yet regardless what it looks like, the blade is critical. Beyond the geometry, choosing a blade material affects the user’s experience. Each steel will have its own pros & cons, but any of our knives will be expected to perform well for their intended tasks.

While I may prefer the looks and ease of maintenance of a high-carbon steel with a forced patina, some may opt for the stability of stainless steel. HC has more frequent maintenance, however is considered easier each time. Stainless will last longer, and may require more effort to hone the sharp edge once dull.

Made by hand, for your hand.

Choosing the handle material is where the most personalization is decided. Whether you’re going for a more classic look with beautiful wood scales or layers of durable synthetics, we choose only materials that will stand the test of time with proper care.

Some are more resilient than others, but even the wood choices we use are considered exotics with high density and oil to resist moisture causing expansion and contraction. As with the blade, the handle material may darken with age and use, or exposure to UV light. Generally the colors can be brought back to original luster with light rubbing of extra fine steel wool and reapplying any corrosion inhibitor to the blade.

How you carry it.

As is standard with fixed blades, you must consider how you will carry the sharp object safely. Though this allows the user to carry specifically how they wish, or even switch it up from time to time.

If going for the classic aesthetic, you may opt for a leather sheath. Some however may prefer the appearance or feel of a modern kydex sheath, that has a satisfying click as the knife snaps into place.

Both have their pros & cons. Our standard will be a leather sheath. Pocket carry option available as an upgrade.
